Students, this is a reminder that if you’re wanting to decorate a friend’s locker for their birthday, there's a form in the office you need to fill out. You can pick up a form in the office and fill it out beginning at 7:55 on the morning you’re wanting to decorate the locker.
All 7 & 8 graders who would like to go out for wrestling and missed the meeting on Wednesday, you need to stop by Coach Drennan’s room 209 to sign up and get important information. Practice will start October 27 and all papers need to be turned in by then.
Attention all grades: Battle of the Books booklists and forms are all ready! It’s time to make your team. Pick up a registration form in the library, turn in your team names by Friday October 3, and start reading some great books. If anyone would like assistance joining a team, please speak to Ms. Stucky. Let’s have a lively, fun competition with lots of well-read teams!
Are you the next Bobby Fisher? Do you fancy yourself an intellectual? Do you just enjoy watching the horsey jump over the castley thing? Come to Southwest Middle School’s first Chess Club meeting of the year this coming Tuesday, September 30th from 3:15p to 4:15pm in room 712. We will discuss what days and times would be best for our meetings at that time and will get a couple games in of chess as well. No matter how good or bad you believe you are at chess, this meeting is for you! Heck, we’d even teach you how to play if you’d like.
Hey kids…if anyone out there is still interested in meeting with authors and talking books at the KU Lit Fest with authors Lois Ruby and Mary Casanova, the absolute deadline for registration materials and money is Tuesday, September 30th. See Ms. Lotton-Barker or Ms. Mahoney in the ER East or ER West if you have materials to turn in or any questions about the trip.
I’m in! I’m going to the SW International Club today in room 205 to learn all about Scottish culture with my friends. I can’t wait to try Ms. Rabiola’s shortbread with some tea. See you there!

If a student needs to leave school for an appointment, a parent or guardian must send a written note with the student showing the time he/she is to leave. The student shows the note to his/her teacher to leave class and brings the note to the office to check out. This keeps us from having to interrupt the class and saves the parent from having to wait in the office while the student is being called. If someone other than a parent/guardian is picking up a student, that person’s name must be included on the note. Students will not be released to anyone other than a parent/guardian without written permission from a parent. Students must check in and out with the attendance secretary for all appointments. If a student does not check out with the attendance office, the absence
will not be excused. Your adhering to this policy is appreciated.
Attendance information should be called into the office no later than 8:00 am on the date of the absence by the parent/guardian. If a guardian does not call in an absence, a written excuse that includes the student’s name, date of absence and reason for absence must be submitted to the main office within 3 school days of the absence. After 3 days, the absence will be recorded as unexcused and will not be changed. There is also an answering machine available for parents needing to leave a message outside of school hours (832-5550).
